Foden Shines as Manchester City Sweep Aside Dortmund in Champions League Clash

Manchester City extended their unbeaten run in the Champions League league phase with a commanding win over Borussia Dortmund, as Phil Foden struck twice and Erling Haaland scored against his former club.

The victory, City’s third in four games, lifted Pep Guardiola’s side to fourth in the table, strengthening their bid for automatic qualification to the last 16.

Dortmund, managed by Nico Kovac, began brightly but quickly lost momentum once the hosts found their rhythm. Foden was central to City’s dominance, testing Gregor Kobel early with two strong efforts before finally breaking the deadlock in the 22nd minute. Collecting the ball outside the box, the England international curled a precise low shot into the bottom corner — his first Champions League goal in a year.

City seized full control soon after. Haaland, ever the tormentor of defences, added the second goal on 29 minutes, smashing home a cutback from Jeremy Doku. Kobel, Dortmund’s busiest player on the night, denied Nico O’Reilly and Tijjani Reijnders as City poured forward relentlessly.

After the interval, Foden struck again in the 57th minute with another superb curling finish to make it 3-0. Though Dortmund, languishing in 14th place, found a late response through Waldemar Anton’s close-range effort from Julian Ryerson’s cross, it barely dented City’s dominance.

In stoppage time, substitute Rayan Cherki capped the night with a composed run and tidy finish to restore the three-goal margin, sealing a 4-1 triumph for Guardiola’s men.
