The outage, which began on Monday afternoon, affected both the mobile app and the desktop website, leaving users worldwide unable to access the service.
When attempting to visit the site, users were greeted by a blank page displaying only the platform’s X logo, with no timeline or posts loading.
According to outage tracking website Down Detector, the problem appeared to be global, with users across multiple continents reporting access issues.
Unlike many major tech companies that operate dedicated status pages to keep users informed during technical difficulties, X does not maintain such a system.
Typically, the company and Elon Musk, its owner, rely on the platform itself to communicate updates regarding outages.
Although X and Musk have not released a statement confirming the cause of the outage, several users are reporting that the service has been restored.
The billionaire founder of Tesla Inc purchased the micro-blogging platform for $44 billion in 2022.
Musk had revealed that the reason he acquired Twitter is that it “is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence”.
“There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left-wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society,” he had tweeted.
