A civil society organisation, Circle of Life Foundation, has formally petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch an immediate investigation into alleged corrupt practices, abuse of public office, procurement irregularities, and related offences purportedly committed by Mr. Oden Ewa, former Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations in Cross River State.
The petition, dated 13th July, 2026, and addressed to the Executive Chairman of the ICPC at the Commission’s headquarters on Constitution Avenue, Central Business District, Abuja, was officially received and stamped at the Office of the Honourable Chairman on 21st July, 2026.
Writing in its capacity as a duly registered public interest and anti-corruption organisation, Circle of Life Foundation with offices at No. 6, Louga Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja said it approached the Commission as part of its wider commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, good governance, and the rule of law in Nigeria.
According to the petition, the request was brought pursuant to the powers of the ICPC under the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. The Foundation is urging the Commission to conduct a comprehensive investigation into what it described as “serious allegations of corruption, abuse of office, fraudulent financial dealings, procurement irregularities, and other related offences” allegedly committed by Mr. Ewa during his tenure as Commissioner.
While the petition does not publicly disclose the full breadth of evidence gathered by the group, its Executive Director stressed that the allegations are weighty enough to warrant urgent action by the anti-graft agency in order to preserve public confidence in governance at the sub-national level.
Cross River State’s Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations plays a critical role in coordinating inter-agency projects, managing special assignments from the Governor’s office, and liaising with federal institutions a portfolio that involves the handling of significant public funds and procurement processes.
Circle of Life Foundation is calling on the ICPC to treat the petition with the seriousness it deserves, insisting that a thorough and impartial probe will not only test the veracity of the claims but also send a strong signal that public officers, both serving and former, remain accountable for their stewardship of public resources.
As at the time of filing this report, Mr. Oden Ewa told our corespondents at YEYENEWSBLOG that he will not make any comments pending when he is invited by ICPC.
The ICPC is also yet to make an official statement on whether it will commence formal investigations into the matter. This is a developing story.
