Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Murder Of 62-year-old Woman

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a murder incident that occurred at Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Nation reports that the lifeless body of a 62-year-old woman was discovered after about seven days in a bush path within the community.

Confirming the arrest, spokesman of Oyo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck.

He said the body was immediately evacuated to the Adeoyo General Hospital morgue for autopsy and post-mortem examination to scientifically determine the actual cause of death.

He noted that preliminary investigation had led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Muhammed Sanusi ‘m’ age 42 years and Ogbu James Ajah ‘m’ age 40 years, both residents of Ori-Apata area, Ido, in connection with the incident.

He said:

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a suspected murder incident which occurred at Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido, Ibadan.

“The incident was reported to the police by a good Samaritan who discovered the lifeless body of a 62-year-old woman in a bush path within the community.

“The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives promptly visited the scene where preliminary findings revealed that the corpse had been at the location for at least seven days prior to its discovery.

“Consequently, the body was immediately evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to scientifically determine the actual cause of death.”

He added that in furtherance of a thorough investigation, the scene was immediately sealed off while forensic experts were deployed to process and gather necessary evidence that would aid in identifying, arresting and prosecuting the perpetrator(s).

“In line with standard investigative procedure and to ensure a comprehensive and discreet inquiry, the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

“Preliminary investigation has led to the arrest of two suspects now identified as Muhammed Sanusi ‘m’ aged 42 years and Ogbu James Ajah ‘m’ aged 40 years, both residents of Ori-Apata area, Ido, in connection with the incident.

“The suspects are currently in custody at the State CID and are assisting the Police with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend any other accomplice linked to the crime.

“The unfortunate development initially triggered protests by aggrieved family members and sympathisers within the community.

“However, the situation was swiftly brought under control through the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ido Division, in collaboration with the Local Government Chairman, who jointly appealed to and pacified the bereaved family and other aggrieved members of the public, urging them not to take the law into their hands.

“Their intervention helped restore calm and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

“Following this, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant non-state actors, commenced intensive joint patrols across the affected community and adjoining areas.

“Police operational assets and tactical teams have been strategically deployed to the area to maintain public order, strengthen visibility policing, and reassure residents of their safety”, Olayinka noted.

He disclosed that, in demonstration of responsive leadership, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside a high-powered delegation of the Oyo state government, visited the affected community to assess the situation firsthand and commiserate with the bereaved family.

He aded that the CP has further directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate and lead all necessary operational deployments to ensure sustained peace and stability in the area.

“The Oyo State Police Command assures members of the public that no stone will be left unturned in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this heinous act and ensuring that justice is served.

“Residents are enjoined to remain calm, law abiding, and to provide credible and actionable information that may assist the ongoing investigation,” he assures.
