The Senate of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), at its 252nd meeting, has approved the suspension of nine students over alleged involvement in examination malpractice and the submission of fake results.
The decision followed the submission of a report by the Ad-Hoc Senate Committee on Examination Malpractice and the Senate Students Disciplinary Committee, which investigated cases in which five students were reportedly caught with extraneous materials in the examination hall while four were said to have submitted fake results to the university.
In a letter signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha, the Senate approved the committee’s recommendation that the affected students be suspended from the institution for two academic sessions.
The suspension takes effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.
The suspended students are:
Akwuba Enestina (300 Level), Faculty of Pharmacy;
Udom, Bomfon Iboro (300 Level), Faculty of Pharmacy;
Nwankwo, Daniel N. (200 Level), Faculty of Pharmacy.
Others include:
Ore, Kolade Israel (500 Level), Faculty of Pharmacy;
Chisom, Modestus Ejafa (500 Level), Faculty of Pharmacy.
Also suspended are:
Lazarus, Victoria Ebogo, Department of Home Economics, Faculty of Vocational and Entrepreneur Education;
Ele, Tina Godwin,Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Biological Sciences;
Ofem, Favour Patrick, Department of Science Laboratory Technology, Faculty of Biological Sciences;
Makailu, Nelly Pamilo, Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, Faculty of Arts.
The Senate further directed the Heads of Departments, Deans of the concerned faculties, and the Acting Chief Security Officer to ensure full compliance with the suspension order.
