Rift Widens As Governor Yusuf’s Choice Of Deputy Faces Opposition From Ganduje Loyalists

Following the resignation of embattled Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, it is not yet uhuru for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the search for a new deputy has commenced.

One of the leading contenders to replace Gwarzo is the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ismaila Jibril Falgore, who is reportedly being positioned by Governor Yusuf ahead of the resignation. Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is backing its 2023 deputy governorship candidate, Murtala Sule Garo.

DAILY POST gathered that another big contender is former State House of Assembly Speaker, Alhassan Rirum, who is said to have been favored by majority of the National Assembly members from Kano and indeed his Kano South Senatorial District.

A source told DAILY POST that a growing rift is emerging within the APC between core members loyal to Ganduje and those who followed Yusuf into the party. Ganduje loyalists are backing Murtala Sule Garo, insisting he should be compensated with the slot, especially as he has yet to secure any appointment under the Tinubu administration.

Our source revealed that Governor Yusuf has serious reservations for the choice of Garo, and now pushing his interest toward Assembly Speaker, Ismaila Jibril Falgore who showed loyalty during the governor’s defection to the APC.

Our correspondent gathered that Kano South Senatorial District, and members of the National Assembly are more interested in Alhassan Rirum who is a serving member of the House of Representatives.

Recall that the Kwankwasiyya Movement had announced the resignation of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo Friday night.

This decision, according to Habibu Muhammad Mailemo, “though difficult, has been taken in the overall interest of the people and the stability of governance in Kano State.

“Recent circumstances have, to a considerable extent, constrained the full realization of the benefits and responsibilities attached to the office of the Deputy Governor. In view of this, it has become imperative to allow the office to function optimally in the best interest of the public it is meant to serve,” Habibu’s statement had claimed.
